TEL desires to help equip God’s people in effective ministry to others through evangelism and discipleship. Toward that end, we offer several types of materials for purchase:
Roy Robertson's classic textbook that describes how to make a victorious, overflowing disciple, utilizing the principles and methodology that his disciplemaker, Dawson Trotman, personally handed down to him. The Timothy Training course, a series of 8 basic lessons on discipleship, is included.
The 8-lesson discipleship training course outlined in The Timothy Principle in a workbook format that can be given to your disciple. The workbook includes Bible studies and Scripture memorization assignments.
In this book, revised in 2006, Roy Robertson challenges you to be a triumphant, reproducing disciple and exactly what goals to strive toward in seven realms. He describes ways you can increasingly enjoy your rich heritage, likening discipleship to an upward journey which demands right choices. (Formerly The Road to Discipleship)
A veteran missionary with over 50 years of service, Roy Robertson issues a challenge to the next generation to develop a heart for mission through telling the story of the great movement of God that occurred in Asia following World War II through the influence of five missionary heroes known as the Powerhouse Five. Having worked closely with these men, this book is Roy's firsthand testimony of this little known era of Christian mission.
Originally designed by Roy Robertson and Dawson Trotman, this is TEL's version of the classic gospel illustration popularized through The Navigators. Both the pamphlet and the tract include a thorough explanation of the gospel message.
Four leaflets on Salvation, Assurance, The Word, and Christian Living that can be used either as evangelistic Bible studies or as basic follow-up studies for new believers. These concise Bible studies have been translated into several Asian languages and used extensively in evangelism and follow-up.

More than 2 million Yao people live scattered across southern China. They are part of a larger affinity group, the Yao-Mien, of more than 6 million people spread across China and southeast Asia. In Vietnam, they are known as the Dao. They mainly practice their own form of Yao Taoism, but many are also Buddhists. Worldwide, less than 5% have had a chance to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They desperately need prayer and laborers to carry the Gospel to them. Let this beautiful plaque remind you to pray for their salvation! It can stand alone on a table or be hung on a wall.
More than 6 million Tibetan and related people live scattered across western China and other Himalayan countries. They practice Tibetan Buddhism. Only about 4,000 Tibetans are known to have been exposed to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They are one of the most unreached people groups in the world. They desperately need prayer and laborers to carry the Gospel to them. Let this beautiful plaque remind you to pray for their salvation! It can stand alone on a table or be hung on a wall.
Use this magnet as a reminder to pray for the Mongolian people of China (and Mongolia)! Of the 7.4 million Chinese Mongols, less than 1% have trusted in Christ. The vast majority hold to Buddhism. Pray for those who labor among them, and for Believers to multiply in their midst.
This magnet shows the beautiful traditional dress of Hui women. Use it as a reminder to pray for the Hui people of China! They are China's most widespread Muslims. Although there are more than 13 million Hui people, Christians at best number in the few hundreds, only about 0.01% of the Hui population. They desperately need prayer for a spiritual breakthrough.
The Miao people of China belong to a much larger people group, the Miao/Hmong. They are spread through both southern China and northern Vietnam, with another group on the China/Myanmar border. In China, the Miao are comprised of at least 15 distinct groups, for a total of about 2 million people. Overall, in China they are almost completely unreached, although a few groups have Believers in the 2-3% range. Let this magnet remind you to pray for their evangelization and for the growth of the few Believers among them to reach their own people.
More than 11 million Uyghur live in China's far west, yet there are fewer than 100 known Christians among them. They follow Islam, though many add traditional superstitious elements to it. Even though many Han Chinese live among them, the Han Believers have little vision to share Christ with them. Let this magnet remind you to pray that this changes, that more laborers reach them and that the Gospel bears rich fruit among them.

Motivated by Christ’s Great Commission to preach the gospel to every creature, Training Evangelistic Leadership’s primary objective is to recruit, train, and send forth local Gospel teams that reap public decisions for Christ with personalized follow-up. In countries where public preaching is possible, teams are sent forth to publicly proclaim the gospel. In others, personal evangelism is emphasized. Emphasis is always placed on shepherding those who make decisions for Christ into local churches.
TEL teams operate with three primary ministry distinctives:
TEL labors to train Asian evangelists for the harvest in a home environment. We apply Mark 3:14 by inviting Asians to live “with us” in full-time training programs of several months duration, where they are quipped both in the classroom and on the job for effective evangelistic ministry. Graduates of TEL training programs serve in churches, mission agencies, and as TEL staff. TEL also helps equip church leaders in effective evangelism and disciplemaking through training seminars.
In addition to team evangelistic ministry, all TEL missionaries and national workers labor to multiply their witness through personal disciplemaking.

[China: Feb 5, 2014]
There are some who say openness to the Gospel is waning in China. Any maybe that's true. Maybe the great door of opportunity is beginning to close. Maybe in some places or among some social groups. But not everywhere in China. One of our colaborers has had the chance to share the Gospel six times in two months with just two to five people at a time, and seen five people receive Christ's gift of salvation. more »

Training Evangelistic Leadership (TEL) was launched in Singapore in 1970 by Rev. Roy Robertson out a recognized need to develop more full-time Asian evangelists. He invited six men from five Asian countries to live in his home for a year to receive on-the-job training in evangelistic ministry. The vision of TEL continued to expand as Roy and his wife Phyllis conducted similar training programs through homes in Japan, Indonesia, India, and the Philippines.
TEL was initially formed by Roy as a project of The Navigators but has since become an independent mission agency that operates with an international board of directors in Denton, TX. Roy, who founded and continues to serve as International Director of TEL, sailed to China in 1948 having been appointed The Navigators’ first missionary by the organization’s founder Dawson Trotman. Roy labored in the ministry of evangelism and disciplemaking through The Navigators in many Asian countries until his retirement in 1986. Upon his retirement, Roy renewed his commitment to continue the ministry of evangelism and training in Asia full-time through TEL. The resultant fruit of that commitment, TEL is now a mission agency which is blend of about half international missionaries and half national workers operating in 6 Asian countries and in the United States.
TEL continues to labor in South and Southeast Asia with a vision to preach the gospel to every creature through direct proclamation and through training others who also desire to labor in this vision. The harvest is still ripe in Asia and TEL is trusting God for full-time missionaries whom God has called to help complete the work of evangelism in Asia through serving in gospel teams and training others to do the same.
For information about serving with TEL, please see our Service Opportunities.
TEL's ministry is to help equip God's people for effective ministry to others through evangelism and discipleship. Toward that end, we offer several types of materials for purchase and some of our overseas materials for direct download. Thanks to Discipleship Library (External Link), we are also pleased to make available many of Roy Robertson's messages from his 50+ years of missionary service.
May the Lord be glorified, His Gospel proclaimed and His Kingdom advanced through the use of all these resources.
